Sophomore year was almost over when I started thinking about my career. What did I want to do? I had no clue. My interests are all over the place - I love math and history and psychology and art and languages and computer science and just about everything you can major in. I finally settled for Computer Science. It's versatile enough to give me a strong framework to delve into everything I want to learn in the future.
But then the question of picking a college came into the picture. I'm from India, where double majors and minors are almost unheard of. Besides, I wanted to travel. So I decided to look a little further than my home country. And I ended up looking a lot further than home - I decided to apply to colleges halfway around the world - in the US! Despite not having sufficient financial resources required to study abroad, I applied with the hope that I would procure a scholarship, and worked towards it with everything I had.
The core values I keep on pedestals in my mind are creativity and curiosity, learning and adventure. And they all nudged me to apply to a college where I could explore what I wanted to and push the limits of my creativity while living in an environment completely out of my comfort zone.
That is what I ended up doing. And now I'm at UC, ready to make the most of my time here. Carpe diem!
